6/26/2026  Update   I have completed a new commission, started another and created sketches for numerous songs since my last update here. [Yes! I should update more.] This past November my new work for cello and orchestra, Dark...the Angel's voice! was premiered by the Greater Columbus Community Orchestra, conducted by Alex Toa. This work was commissioned by the Johnstone Fund for New Music.  Before I had finished that project, they commissioned a new work for the Columbus Dance Theater which I am currently working on. Entitled Sarabande for mixed ensemble, it will be premiered in February, 2027.

5/23/2024  Current Projects     Recently I was commissioned to create a new work for orchestra, Golden for harp and string orchestra.    Also, serious work has resumed with Faust J.D.

4/21/2017__ Seize The Day: Quartets by Richard Jordan Smoot has been released and is available at CD Baby. The album is comprised of  three quartets composed over a 10 year period and features the clarinetist, Richard Stoltzman as well as the string quartet, Carpe Diem String Quartet. The album may be purchased as a physical copy by reaching out to me via the Contact link.  Eventually we will have external distribution again.

Things are steadily coming together on this site. Music has been posted, linked to retail outlets, and much more is to come. Meanwhile work continues on the new album of quartets. Recording sessions with Carpe Diem String Quartet are now completed and editing of 63 minutes of music total continues.  We hope to release the new CD and downloads ASAP.

There was a WOSU-FM Classical 101 broadcast of my work from the 1990s, Concerto for Guitar and Chamber Orchestra featuring Lynn Harting-Ware, guitar, Gerhard Samuel, conductor with the CCM Contemporary Music Ensemble [no music just information] on the show Fretworks. You may need to search online to find it.
